Would you join me for a night to make art and honour your ancestry?
In the Celtic calendar, Samhain marks the end of the harvest season, and a time called the thinning of the veil. The thin veil refers to this time in our year when the leaves are falling off the trees, we feel death and loss all around us, and we are closest, most connected to those who have gone before us.
The veil is thin, between our ancestors and us.
It is a time when we may be more acutely aware of the loved ones we have lost, and even the generations we did not know personally, but sense their presence within us, their struggles, and collective wisdom. Perhaps this rises up in you as a sense of nostalgia, or maybe specific memories come flooding back, like those drives in the country with your grandpa, radio blasting his favourite folk songs, enjoying the colour changes of the leaves.
This time of year beckons us to remember our roots, honour the legacy of our ancestors, and notice how these connections impact us today.
And so I would like to invite you to join me in preparing for an ancestor altar- a visual remembering of the people gone before and their impact on our lives today.
It will be an evening of candle decorating, yummy snacks, chatting about our ancestry, how we can remember them well, and live into their legacy.
